TARGET is a New Zealand-based, multi-centre, randomised controlled trial investigating the effects of using less tight and tight glycaemic targets for women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Due on the stepped-wedge design, hospitals are randomised rather than participants, and will move from less tight to tighter glycaemic targets at the time of randomisation. At the end of this study all hospitals involved will be using the tighter targets. Participating hospitals include: Christchurch Women’s Hospital, Dunedin Hospital, Hawke’s Bay Hospital, Middlemore Hospital, Nelson Hospital, Rotorua Hospital, Southland Hospital (Invercargill), Taranaki Hospital, Tauranga Hospital and Whangarei Hospital.
